THE SILICON VALLEY SOCK WARS

When Ozone introduced its Men’s Sock collection a year and a half ago we had a war cry, “Socks are the new tie”. This mantra has been echoed by the bold and creative men of Silicon Valley.

In a Men’s Vogue article, Laurie Mallet, Ozone’s President and CEO was quoted, “Socks are our secret weapon”. She could not be more on target.

The recent New York Times article “A Foot in the Door in Silicon Valley”, February 5th 2012, Exemplifies Ozone’s credo. “In high flying Silicon Valley, it is flamboyantly colored, audaciously patterned socks. Where no one would be caught dead in a tie, wearing flashy socks is more than an expression of your personality. It signals that you are part of the in crowd. It’s like a secret handshake for those who have arrived, and for those who want to.” It is a vindication and affirmation of everything the Ozone Men’s sock collection represents.

What are we going to do about it? Well there are a couple of things:

Firstly, since we know there is nothing cooler or hipper in fashion footwear out there than Ozone, we are instigating the first “Sock Wars Competition”. If you will submit a photo* of a sock that you think is cooler or better designed than anything that Ozone has to offer, an independent panel of sock fashionistas and fetishists, will determine if your choice is a winner. We feel so confident that we will prevail, that we will offer any winner two pairs of free Ozone socks. Ozone is the most copied sock company in history and we know we have an edge, so the deck is stacked in our favor.

Secondly, Ozone wants to play in the Silicon Valley Sock Wars. As Hunter Walk, a director of Product Management at YouTube puts is, “I have been in meetings where people look down and notice my socks, and there is this universal sign, almost like a gang sign, where they nod and pull up their pant leg a little to show off their socks.”

Ozone has decided in order to make the “Silicon Valley Sock Wars” a little more competitive and to make the climate a few degrees hotter; we are offering all Silicon Valley players a 50% reduction on any of the socks in our Men’s  sock collection. This offer is good for one month and valid proof of employment is Silicone Valley is required.
