Remembering Christo

The loss of Christo has been especially poignant for me. He asked me several months ago to participate in the wrapping of the Arc de Triomphe In Paris, and of course I was thrilled. Christo, Jeanne-Claude, and I have been working together since the Surrounded Islands project in Miami where we designed the uniforms for the workers and t-shirts. We continued our collaboration for the Pont Neuf and The Gates in Central Park  for which we designed exclusive t-shirts and socks (pictured above).

They have been dear friends and colleagues for over 40 years. I recently met with Christo in March to discuss the Arc de Triomphe project. We had a lovely moment and I am so glad to have spent this time with him.

Christo and Jeanne Claude have been such an important part of my life and we are fortunate to have a wonderful collection of some early pieces. Their inspiration, creativity, and extraordinary perseverance has left an indelible mark on the art world.

They will be sorely missed.

 Christo and Jeanne-Claude

Christo Vladimirov Javacheff (1935–2020) and Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon (1935–2009), known as Christo and Jeanne-Claude, were a collaborative artistic duo known for their large-scale, site-specific environmental installations. Their work often involved monumental displays of fabrics and wrappings forced observers to reconsider specific places and question the nature of art
