Behind the Designs: Shibari
Women's Sheers
We got really tied up in the making of these very special stockings: our Shibari sheers celebrate an ancient Japanese art form, brought to life with the finest Japanese nylon available. Shibari refers to the art of knot-tying, specifically on a human subject. Somewhere between an act of performance and one of spirituality, the body acts as a canvas and the tier a painter - both become figuratively and literally bound together! The shape of the knots accentuate the natural curves of the body, often with complicated patterns and shapes.
The Art of Knot-Tying
Inspired by this beautiful tradition, we worked with our Japanese mill to blend the art of knot-tying with the art of socks. Eventually, we figured a way to tie both together, right onto two knee-high stockings. The knots that travel up the sides of each style mimic those found in a traditional performance: the first shows off the contrast between tight and open spaces, and the Cross design resembles more uniform twists and turns.
A combination of sensuality, power and strength, shibari is one of the most unique and interesting types of art that we have encountered. Use these knee-highs when you need to tie up a loose end in your wardrobe!
